Slipped into Bungie’s weekly update last Thursday was this promise: First fireteam to beat Destiny 2: Forsaken’s Last Wish raid is going to get a pro-rasslin’ style championship belt. A real one, not an in-game item.

Bungie’s teaser said that the winning team “will have the opportunity to acquire real-world trophies,” plural, so perhaps this is like work where you get a catalog and can pick a toaster, steak knives or a suitcase when you’ve been there for 5 years. Who knows what the other premiums are, but I’m betting that a heavyweight championship belt is the best one of the lot.

Last Wish goes live on Friday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. PT. Bungie waited 10 days to introduce it to give players more time to prepare to take down its adversaries. We’ve put together this set of tips for taking on the new challenge, but for sure there’s some elite team out there three times as prepared to take this thing down within hours of its launch. For those scoring at home:

Start preparing for the Last Wish raid day one in Destiny 2: Forsaken

  • Vault of Glass, the first raid in the first Destiny, went down 14 hours after it launched.
  • Wrath of the Machine, the raid in Destiny: Rise of Iron, was beaten two hours after it went live.
  • Destiny 2’s first raid, Leviathan, was conquered less than six hours after it debuted.
  • Destiny 2’s Prestige raid was beaten less than an hour after it launched, although under somewhat dubious circumstances at the time.

Bungie noted that “our new friends from Korea (are) joining us on the starting line,” so that lengthens the odds you or anyone you know get their hands on the champeenship belt.

But as becoming World First (this is an honorific worthy of uppercasing) has become a goal in every Destiny raid, it’s cool that Bungie’s acknowledging this with a real trophy, in addition to the usual accolades and confirmations given on social media.
